Short answer

Can a lost FS25 savegame be restored?

Yes, if your provider keeps automatic backups. In the web interface under Backups, select the last working backup and restore it.

Save suddenly gone — what happened?

You log into your FS25 server — and the save has been reset or is completely gone. Hours, sometimes days of playtime lost. It's one of the worst experiences in FS25 multiplayer — and it happens more often than it should.

Important: In many cases the save isn't really gone — it can be restored from a backup. Check whether backups exist before you give up.

Step 1: check your backups immediately

Before you do anything else — check whether your provider has automatic backups:

1

Open the web interface

Look for a "Backup" or "Restore" section in your provider's web interface.

2

Pick the last working backup

Choose the backup from the day before the loss. Stop the server → restore the backup → restart the server.

3

No backup available?

If your provider doesn't offer automatic backups, that's a serious problem. Ask their support whether a backup exists anyway.

Why does the FS25 savegame disappear?

There are three common causes:

Cause 1: server restart during autosave

This is the most common cause. If the server is restarted while it's in the middle of saving, you end up with a corrupted or empty savegame. It happens especially often with:

  • Large mod maps (16x) that take a long time to save
  • Manual restarts without waiting for the autosave to finish
  • Automatic restarts by the provider at unfortunate times

Prevention: Before every server restart: save manually in-game → check the log for "Game saved successfully" → only then restart.

Cause 2: faulty mod in the savegame

Some mods write faulty data into the savegame. If that mod is then disabled, the savegame can no longer be loaded. You can spot this by LUA errors in the log at server startup.

Cause 3: manual unloading enabled

Some providers have a "manual unloading" option in the web interface. Under certain circumstances this feature can reset the savegame. When in doubt, disable it.

How to protect your save

  • Automatic backups: daily, at least 7 days of retention — non-negotiable
  • Manual backup before big changes: new map, new mods, major update → download the savegame directory via FTP beforehand
  • Set the autosave interval correctly: 15–20 minutes is ideal. Too short = frequent interruptions, too long = big losses after a crash
  • Save before restarting: always save manually in-game first, then restart the server

Your provider has no automatic backups?

Without automatic backups, losing your save is only a matter of time. In that case, back up your save yourself: download the savegame directory via FTP regularly — at the latest before big changes like a new map, new mods or an update. Also ask your provider whether automatic backups can be set up.

Frequently asked questions

Can a lost FS25 savegame be restored?
Yes, if your provider keeps automatic backups. In the web interface under Backups, select the last working backup and restore it.
Why does the FS25 server delete the savegame?
Most common cause: the server was restarted while the autosave was running. Especially with big mod maps that take a long time to save. Solution: save manually before every restart and wait until 'Game saved successfully' appears in the log.
How do I protect my FS25 save from getting lost?
Enable automatic daily backups. Back up manually via FTP before big changes. Always save in-game before server restarts. Set the autosave interval to 15-20 minutes.
