ATS Server — Overview

With an American Truck Simulator Convoy server you can drive the US highways together as a group. A dedicated server keeps the session open permanently — players can join at any time without a specific host needing to be online. In this guide you'll set up your ATS server step by step, including mods and the typical pitfalls.

What you need: An ATS dedicated server (e.g. at Agrar Chaoten), the game on your PC and a Steam account for the server login token. Convoy currently supports up to 8 players at once.

Requirements

  • Steam server login token: Create a token at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers for app ID 270880 (American Truck Simulator).
  • server_packages: These files define which map and DLCs the server loads — they are generated in-game (see the next step).
  • Same DLCs: All players need the same map DLCs as the server.

Setting Up the Server

Generate the server_packages

Start ATS, load your desired profile and open the developer console. Type export_server_packages. ATS creates server_packages.sii and server_packages.dat in your profile folder.

Upload the files to the server

Upload both server_packages files to the server via FTP. They define which map (incl. DLC states) and which mods are active.

Adjust server_config.sii

In server_config.sii, enter the server name, password, max. player count and your lobby_name. Add the Steam login token in the token field so the server gets listed publicly.

Start the server

Start the server via the web interface. The log shows whether the token was accepted and the session was created. Default ports: 27015 (UDP/TCP) and 27016.

How Players Join

In-game under Multiplayer → Browse servers your server is listed (name = lobby_name). Password-protected servers appear with a lock icon. Alternatively you can join directly via IP. Important: all players must own the same map DLCs, otherwise joining will fail.

Using Mods

ATS mods (e.g. map or truck mods) work in Convoy, but they have to be in sync:

Enable mods in your profile

Enable the mods you want in the mod manager and then regenerate the server_packages — otherwise the server won't know about the mods.

Transfer to the server

Upload the updated server_packages and the mod files to the server. All players need exactly the same mods in the same version.

Order matters: The mod load order must be identical on the server and the clients. The easiest way is to share your mod pack as a list so everyone sets the same order.

Common Problems

  • Server not listed: Login token missing or created for the wrong app ID. ATS = 270880, ETS2 = 227300.
  • Joining fails: Different DLCs or mods between server and player.
  • Map missing after an update: Re-export the server_packages after an ATS or DLC update.
  • Connection drops: Check that ports 27015/27016 are open — preconfigured on rented servers.

Tips

ETS2 in parallel: The process is identical for Euro Truck Simulator 2 — only app ID 227300 and the respective map DLCs differ.

Backups: Back up your server_config.sii and server_packages via FTP before making bigger changes.
