Short answer
How do I configure an Assetto Corsa server?Via two files: server_cfg.ini controls the track, sessions and rules, entry_list.ini the grid slots and cars. The easiest way is the free Content Manager.
Assetto Corsa Server — Overview
Assetto Corsa is the benchmark for realistic racing simulation on PC. Your own dedicated server gives you full control over the track, vehicle class, sessions (practice, qualifying, race) and rules — ideal for leagues, fixed racing groups or regular track days with friends. In this guide you'll set up your server, from configuration to joining.
What you need: An Assetto Corsa dedicated server (e.g. at Agrar Chaoten) and the game on your PC. Recommended: the free tool Content Manager, which makes configuration far easier.
Requirements
- Tracks & cars: Decide which track and which vehicles will be driven. For DLC or mod content, all players must own or have it installed as well.
- Configuration files: The server is controlled via
server_cfg.ini(sessions, track, rules) andentry_list.ini(grid slots & vehicles). - Open ports: Defaults are TCP/UDP
9600and HTTP port8081— preconfigured on rented servers.
Setting Up the Server
Configure server_cfg.ini
Enter the server name, track (TRACK/CONFIG_TRACK), allowed cars (CARS) and the session structure: practice, qualifying and race with their respective duration or lap count.
Define entry_list.ini
Define the grid slots: each slot gets a vehicle model and optionally a fixed skin/player assignment. The number of entries determines the maximum number of drivers.
Upload files & start
Upload both INI files to the server via FTP (or transfer them directly from Content Manager) and start the server via the web interface. The log shows whether the track and cars loaded correctly.
Content Manager saves time: Instead of writing the INI files manually, you can click together the complete server config in Content Manager (track, cars, sessions, weather via CSP) and transfer it directly.
Choosing Tracks & Vehicles
Make sure the track and car IDs match exactly — even a typo prevents the server from starting. For mod content (e.g. additional tracks or vehicles): the server and all clients need the same mods in the same version, otherwise affected players cannot join.
How Players Join
Players find your server in-game under Drive → Multiplayer in the server list, or connect directly via IP. Joining is most convenient with Content Manager — missing but installed content is matched automatically. Password-protected servers require the password set in server_cfg.ini.
Extending with Content Manager & CSP
If you want more, use the Custom Shaders Patch (CSP) together with Content Manager: dynamic weather, time of day, more realistic visuals and extended server features. Note that CSP-dependent features require players to have CSP installed too.
Common Problems
- Server won't start: Wrong track or car ID in
server_cfg.ini. Check the IDs exactly. - Player can't join: Missing DLC or missing mod on the client side.
- Server not in the list: HTTP port
8081or UDP/TCP9600blocked — already open on rented servers. - Grid slots full: Too few entries in
entry_list.ini— one slot is needed per driver.
