## Rust server — hardcore survival by your rules

Rust is the ultimate hardcore survival game. Your own dedicated server gives you control over wipe cycles, gather rates, group limits and plugins — perfect for PvP, PvE or roleplay communities.

**Rust servers need power!** For 50+ players we recommend at least 8 GB RAM. Map size and plugin count additionally affect RAM requirements.

## Basic configuration

**1. Order and start the server**

Order your [Rust server at Agrar Chaoten](https://agrarchaoten.com/gameserver/rust). The first start generates the map and can take 5-10 minutes.

**2. Adjust the server settings**

In the `server.cfg`:

**3. Set up RCON**

RCON (Remote Console) lets you run admin commands remotely:

Use tools like **RustAdmin** or **Battlemetrics RCON** for convenient management.

## Gather rates and game modes

| Playstyle | Gather | Craft speed | Wipe cycle |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Vanilla | 1x | 1x | Monthly |
| 2x Modded | 2x | 1x | Weekly |
| 5x-10x Boosted | 5-10x | Instant | Weekly |
| PvE/RP | 2-3x | 1x | Monthly+ |

## Installing Oxide/uMod plugins

Rust uses **Oxide (uMod)** as its plugin framework:

**1. Install Oxide**

The web interface often has a one-click installation for Oxide. Alternatively, upload the Oxide files into the server folder via FTP.

**2. Download plugins**

Download plugins from **umod.org** and copy the `.cs` files into the `/oxide/plugins/` folder.

### Popular plugins

- **Gather Manager:** Adjust gather rates via command
- **NTeleportation:** /home, /tpa teleport commands
- **Clans:** Clan system with allied clans
- **Better Chat:** Colored names, ranks in chat
- **Kits:** Starter kits for new players
- **ZoneManager + TruePVE:** Define PvE zones

## Wipe management

Rust wipes regularly — on the first Thursday of every month there's a **force wipe** (mandatory). In between, you can schedule your own wipes:

**Weekly wipes** keep the community active. **Monthly wipes** allow for more base building. Communicate the wipe cycle clearly in the server name.
